Placements

Volunteers are important to us, but we also recognise that people might need to gain experience as part of their education, study or work. Over the years we have supported placements from various local schools, colleges and universities In particular, we have very strong links with Swarthmore College and have provided long term placements for several of their students with additional needs.

As well as placements within the education system, we have also worked with various organisations to help long term unemployed people back into work. This has been so successful that we have employed several people at the end of their time with us.

Lauren | Digital Marketing Internship

1) Why did you choose to complete a placement at Revive Reuse?

When the opportunity to complete a digital marketing and website development placement arose, I knew it would be a great opportunity to be responsible for a local companies online presence. As I already worked for Revive, I knew I would be able to improve my skills in a friendly working environment. It was also important for me to choose a placement where my values align with that of the company I am working for and Revive's values of reducing waste via re-use and supporting the local community is something I believe in.

2) What have you done so far?

So far, I have developed and designed the Revive Reuse website in its entirety. Being able to work independently on a site of this scale has been highly valuable and allowed me to improve my technical skills in programming, photography, and design. I am also going to create content for social media channels and then hopefully move to E-commerce, by working on the eBay site.

3) What has been your favourite thing about completing a placement at Revive Reuse?

For me, the level of independence has been my favourite thing about my placement. I am able to ask for help when needed, but working in this way has allowed me to pinpoint areas of weakness in my knowledge and practical skills. As a result I have been able to be develop these weaknesses during this design and development process.

4) What skills have you learnt?

I think one of the most important skills I have developed is time management. This is the first time I have completed a project of this size. In doing so, I now have a better idea of estimating the length of time it takes to complete certain tasks and the amount of small tasks involved in creating innovative websites. Furthermore, I have been able to revisit Adobe software, such as Photoshop and Illustrator, while also learning entirely new programs including Adobe Animate and After Effects.

5) What do you hope to achieve by the end of your placement?

I hope to provided Revive Reuse with a innovative and well-developed website. I also want to improve their social media presence, create promotional material and increase income through assisting with eBay sales. I also hope to learn and develop my practical skills and create high quality work for the company which I can later feature in my portfolio.
